The Rolling Stones: “Stoned” (1963 instrumental)

“Stoned” is the instrumental B side of the 3rd UK Rolling Stones 45. That single’s promoted side is a song written for this group by Lennon & McCartney, “I Wanna Be Your Man”. In the wake of the Beatles’ American Feb. ’64 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, “I Wanna Be Your Man b/w Stoned” became the debut Rolling Stones US 45.
In Britain, writing credit for “Stoned” was given to Nanker Phelge, a songwriter pseudonym used for collaborations by the whole band.

TRIVIA: The first UK pressings of this song were misidentified on the 45 label as “Stones”.
