The Rolling Stones pulled out a surprise cover of Don Covay song ‘Mercy Mercy’ for the first time in 50 years.
During their sold out show at FedExField in Landover, Maryland which is located close Washington, DC, The Rolling Stones performed ‘Mercy Mercy’ for the first time since their headline show Hyde Park show on July 6, 1969.
That hugely emotional show in London came just days after their founding member Brian Jones died after being found unresponsive at the bottom of his swimming pool. The Stones’ most recent show, which also marked the 50th anniversary of Jones’ death, was a particularly heartfelt one.
Addressing the crowd, frontman Mick Jagger said: “It’s a long time ago,” when preparing to perform the song, “so we’re going to try to remember it,” he added.
